Itinerary - Nepal

Nepal: 10 June - 2 July

So, my Lonely Planet Nepal guide arrived today and, combined with the proposed itineraries sent to me by several tour companies, I was able to cobble together a preliminary itinerary for the Nepal portion of my stay.

It is highly unlikely I will stick to this schedule. It may turn out that, due to Nepal's monsoon season, I will have to curtail or even abandon my Annapurna base camp trek. I hope that's not the case, as I will then be forced to go for an elephant ride in the Chitwan National Park, which I hear are infested with Royal Bengal Tiger. I would hate to have to do that.

10 June 2011: Flight from Seoul to Kathmandu via Guangzhou. Arriving 10:10pm at Tribhuvan International Airport.
11 - 15 June: Exploring Kathmandu and surrounds

  • Swayambhunath Monkey Temple
  • Walking tour through the old town
  • Durbar Square
  • Traditional Cuisine
  • Day trips to Bhaktapur
16 - 17 June: Travel to Pokhara. Explore sights along the way:
  • Manakamana temple
  • Durbar Ghorka
18 June: Explore Pokhara

19 June: Begin Annapurna Base Camp trek
  • Pokhara to Naya Pul - Drive
  • Trek from Naya Pul to Tikhedunga (5/6 hours)
20 June: Tikhedunga to Ghorepani (5/6 hours)

21 June: Ghorepani to Tadapani (6/7 hours)
  • Morning excursion up Poon Hill
22 June: Tadapani to Chhomrong (5 hours)

23 June: Chhomrong to Doban (5 hours)

24 June: Doban to Annapurna Base Camp (4 hours)

25-28 June: Annapurna Base Camp to Ghandrung (4 days) 

29 June: Ghandrung to Pokhara (drive)

30 June: Travel Pokhara to Kathmandu

01 July: Rest and relax in Kathmandu

02 July: Depart Kathmandu on Tibet tour
