The last pictures I uploaded before the China fiasco were from my trek to Annapurna Base Camp. Here then are the Nepali pictures taken after that. They are mostly from Chitwan, Nepal's largest National Park, home of elephants, tigers, and rhinos...
It rained literally for days when I was in Sauraha. These canoes will soon be floating. As will the huts on the right...
| The waters rise, as the Royal Chitwan National Park broods across the river. |
| Men bail out a canoe so that tourists (myself included) can ride in it. |
| Those are some heavy clouds. |
| Do these look like stable vessels? They're not, even when dry. |
| A road within the park. |
| Sauraha begins to float away downstream. |
| Remember those huts I pointed out earlier? Yeah, that's them there. |
| Pounding rain, Masala Tea, Fried Egg Breakfast, and Anna Karenina on the Kindle. |
| The rain continues. I spent this day reading, and finding newer, drier restaurants from which to read. |
| You see more elephants than cars on the main street in Sauraha. |
| Drive Thru. Elephant wrangler stops to buy a Snickers. |
| The tourists saddle up. |
| I felt like I was in a live-action adaptation of the Jungle Book. |
| Or Bambi? |
| Nope, this Disney movie is clearly Dumbo. |
| You can lead an elephant to water but you can't... Oh, I guess you can make him ford the river. |
| One of the Rhino guards from Disney's Robin Hood, on his day off. |
| They're not afraid of us cos' all they smell is Oliphaunt. |
| These guys (the ones we can ride) are rented from the Indian government for a mere $1000/month. |
| The elephant stables. They woke me in the morning with their hollering and their trumpeting. So inconsiderate. |
| The elephants get a bath, and so do some tourist folks. |
| I rented a motorbike, and rode out through the fields. |
| I took this picture after crossing this bridge... On a motorbike I was still learning to control. The guy on the other side was unconcerned that I might ride the bike into a chasm. |
| More Jungle Book scenery. |
| There be tigers in them there hills. |
| We snuck up on this wild rhino, with no elephants to mask our scent. He took off running when he heard us. I blame my squeaker sneakers. |
| A strangler fig wends its way up a tree. |
