Hong Kong! What a refreshing change from China, with the language strain and foreign foods. Hong Kong is still very English: they speak the Queen's, drive on the left, and serve High Tea at all the hotels. Signs say "lift" instead of "elevator" and buildings start at the ground floor and count upward from One above that. It's the little things...
Entering Hong Kong was kind of surreal - no No Man's Land, you just walk across the border.
China exhorts me to leave the country by the least strenuous method. It amuses me to imagine that Hong Kong is just one floor higher than China.
Looking across the bay from Tsim Sha Tsui toward downtown Hong Kong.
Ditto.
Funky tree.
Ina and Julia, excited about La Casa Margarita!
We went to see the 10,000 buddhas. The approach was lined with these guys, all different.
Bad ass buddha.
That last guy is going to be upset when he sees what happened to his Epic Steed.
Calculating how many buddhas there were - the total is at the top.
Umm...
This guy is happy, for some reason.
A traditional Hong Kong-style boat plies the water.
Downtown Hong Kong is heavily modernised. Note the double-decker busses.
Wall-art in Lan Kwai Fong
The Lan Kwai Fong brewery
Night view from Victoria Peak.
People admiring the night view from Victoria peak.
Again...
People gather to watch the world largest laser-light show.
High tea. Scones, Devonshire clotted cream, strawberry jam, and earl grey jelly.
Lemon cake.
View of Hong Kong airport from the cablecar to the Big Buddha.
The Big Buddha on Lantau island, also from the cable car.
Our timing was perfect to catch a Shaolin performance.
Look ma! No gravity!
Cape of Good Hope, and America.
Another incarnation of the Buddha.
A scenic fishing village.
The tide was out, unfortunately.
South African farm bread!
I am excited, because I am eating Lamb Bredie. Also because I am not having to drink South African beer at the South African restaurant. I do not remember Castle fondly.
Braaied chicken breast. Unfortunately no picture of the Ostrich steak.
The SA restaurant was on a beach, almost as beautiful as Clifton or Llandudno. I'd rank it equal to Camps Bay.
For dessert... Tipsy Tart!
