Shanghai

After Hong Kong I was feeling pretty beat, so I holed up in Shanghai for a few days, trying to grab some energy for an ascent of Huang Shan, China's Yellow Mountain.

View from the world's highest observation deck, on top of the world's fourth highest building.

Shanghai spent years as both an English and German town, and the old colonial architecture is still everywhere downtown.

See? Spires!

Also: aliens. They landed on that building.

The hostel I stayed at was rather fancy. I should hope so given the price of accommodation in Shanghai.

View from the colonial Bund across the river to the Financial district.

Looking along the Bund.

This is what London will look like after the Red Invasion of 2130.

The Bund is riddled with invisible wormholes. Shanghai commuters use them for cheap travel to Australia.

The Financial District.

Pretty and shiny!

The image of Chairman Mao has received a facelift in the Chinese civic sculpting industry,

Truly a first-world city.

The sun goes down...
